The Darkness

First things first: The Darkness has a brilliant concept. The idea of a mafia hit man who also possesses evil supernatural abilities which flourish in the dark is a pretty exciting basis for a story. However, the game doesn't always live up to its potential and suffers from some annoying issues.

Shadow of the Colossus

Occasionally a game is made which is beautiful, original and astonishing, something fresh and ground breaking which pushes the boundaries and refuses to play it safe. Shadow of the Colossus is one of these games. It is sad that nearly all games today consist of Sims expansion packs, licensed EA sport games or endless sequels which sell millions, whilst original games manage only a fraction.

Silent Hill 2

I am walking down a dark corridor. My footsteps echo in the blackness as my small pocket torch struggles to illuminate the way ahead. Then, slowly the crackling static of a pocket radio starts and gradually builds. Out of the gloom ahead of me looms a hideous, blood-stained figure without a face. Welcome to Silent Hill 2.

Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4 surprised me. When I picked it up on recommendation from some friends, I was expecting the typical survival horror gameplay of the previous installments. Well, Resident Evil 4 totally reinvents the series and this is why it stands out as a classic.

Half Life 2: Episode 1

Half Life 2: Episode 1 had a lot to live up to after the staggering Half Life 2 was released. Valve took a risk and decided to release the next installment of the saga as a series of episodes, which would be released more frequently and at a lower price. However, responses to this decision have been somewhat mixed, due to the lengthy two year development process involved in creating Episode 1.

Resistance: Fall of Man

Resistance: Fall of Man had a lot of expectations when it was released. Not only was it the first game to be released for the PS3 (00001 on the side of the box!) but it was Sony's flagship first person shooter game to compete with other existing series on rival formats.

Motorstorm PS3 Review

When I decided to buy my PS3 I was largely buying it on the strength of the games predicted for the future, hoping as with the PS2 that with time the real quality games would come out. However, I had heard that Motorstorm was a strong title and made sure to pick it up when my console arrived.

Prey PC Review

Prey has been in development since 1995 in some form or another and was finally released in 2006 after Human Head Studios took over the development. Upon release the game sold reasonably well, received generally positive reviews and then disappeared without a trace, banished to the forgotten bargain bin of shops all over the country.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (GOTY)

"Hey, you should check this out!" my friend enthusiastically said to me whilst we were browsing the selection in our local (game shop that is). "An RPG?" I replied, looking worried and thinking that there would be a better game with more guns and explosions available for my money.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of PC Review

I remember the first time I heard about Guitar Hero. Two of my friends were busy having a pretty serious argument about whether or not one of them could really play Bark at the Moon behind his head whilst blindfolded.

Ratchet and Clank: Future Tools Of Destruction

Ratchet & Clank: Future Tools of Destruction is the sixth game in the series and the first to be released for the PS3. Developed by Insomniac games, a developer with an impressive reputation in the platforming game genre it is one of the few exclusive titles available for Sony's console.

Half Life 2: Episode 2

The Half Life series of game is generally viewed as one of the flagships of the PC and gaming in general. Constantly innovating and trying new things, the Half Life games have always been hailed by gamers as offering sublime gameplay and a compelling story.

As soon as I got my copy of the Orange Box, I tore open the packaging, installed the games and I was soon busy playing Half Life 2: Episode 2. Several hours later I emerged, pleased, then loaded up Team Fortress 2 which I played solid for a few days. Then a week or so later, I decided to load up Portal and give it a go.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Uncharted is the latest game to be developed by Naughty Dog and is a departure from their previous work in the platforming genre and is one of the limited number of exclusive PS3 titles which have been released so far.

Team Fortress 2

Team Fortress 2 is art.

A quick look at the definition of art gives the following: "The conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colours, forms, movements, or other elements in a manner that affects the sense of beauty," In short, Team Fortress 2 is simply astonishing in all of these areas.

-Sir Stirling Moss

Welcome to GRID, Codemasters' latest offering of motor sport erotica, this time dropping the TOCA branding in favour of dipping into the pools of racing from all over the world.

Chuzzle PC Review

Well here I am about to break from the norm for my reviews and dip into the relaxing waters of the world of casual gaming. Now casual games have been around in some form, albeit flash based web games to occupy the workforce while they pretend to be working on their spreadsheets, to the mundane Solitaire that's bundled with Windows.

Speed Racer Wii Review

So here I am sat in front of my TV which is currently adorned with the wailings of Sidhe Interactive and WB Games' latest movie/video game offering of Speed Racer.
