Top Game Releases for July 2022

retrogamergirl here once again; it’s hard to believe we are over halfway through the year already! This month has another group of cool-looking games to check out in July; some are sequels, others are remasters, and some are just their own crazy thing. So here are the five releases that I will keep myself busy with during this summer holiday!

Loopmancer — 13th of July

Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PC

In this realistic-looking 3D platformer you play a detective who is killed while investigating the disappearance of a famous journalist. Immediately after dying, Xiang Zixu wakes up in his apartment bedroom. The phone rings and his colleague is telling him about the new case they are working on about the disappearance of a famous female journalist. This story is like a cool cyberpunk version of Groundhog Day

With elements of platforming and action, this roguelike game seems very interesting. I can’t wait to figure out what happened to the missing journalist, what caused this loop, and what will have to be done to stop it.

LIVE A LIVE— 22nd of July

Nintendo Switch

LAL Remake Cover

This RPG is directed by Takashi Tokita known for his work on Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger on the Super Nintendo. The game tells seven different stories that are unfolding through different time periods, unique characters, and gameplay styles. The stories can be played in any order that you choose, and as you progress you will learn how all these characters are intertwined.

LIVE A LIVE originally came out for the Super Famicom, but is now being released in multiple languages for fans who didn’t get a chance to try out this title out. With beautiful HD 2D visuals and a soundtrack that is a rearranged version of the original — overseen by Yoko Shimomura, who composed the music for Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy XV — we know this is going to be a great-looking and -sounding game!

Azure Striker Gunvolt 3— 28th of July

Nintendo Switch

 Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 2022 03 31 22 003

In the near future a new power called “Septima” awakens in some humans. Humans that have this power are known as the Adepts, and are increasing in numbers as new babies are born. A group of these Adepts call themselves “Eden” and have attempted to secure their supremacy over the world only to be stopped by Gunvolt. Upon hearing this a group called Shadow Yakumo has sent their battle priestess to take down Gunvolt before he awakens again.

I am especially interested in Gunvolt 3 as its creator is Keiji Inafune, the creator of one of my favourite videogame series Mega Man. You can see in the trailer that it definitely shares a lot with that series in the 2D platforming action, so I can’t wait to play this game!

Digimon Survive — 29th of July

Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

digimon survive large art 1200x628

A visual novel experience that includes survival strategy elements so you can influence the story to control some of what happens. The story begins with a group of teens attending an extracurricular activities camp during spring break. On the second day some of the teens decide to go to a famous temple nearby to learn more about the legend of Beast Gods, known as Kemonogami — and a festival celebrating them that will take place. They come across Koromon and hear the other students screaming as they are being attacked by another Digimon. Koromon jumps into action by digivolving into Agumon to scare the Digimon away. The teens realise that they are in another world.

The game was first announced back in 2018 in the Japanese V Jump magazine, and after being delayed multiple times it will finally release this month to anxious Digimon fans everywhere. I am really interested to see how much control the players have over the story by making their own decisions. Plus Koromon is absolutely adorable and I can’t wait to find it in the story!

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 — 29th of July

Nintendo Switch

 Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Coming Soon

The third title in the Xenoblade series of games for the Nintendo Switch taking place after the events of Xenoblade Chronicles, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, this title takes place in the world of Aionios, whose nations are always at war with each other. These wars are fought by engineered soldiers with lifespans of ten years, which are full of constant fighting. The game will have two protagonists and four other main characters, who after running into each other during a special mission end up becoming fugitives hunted by each other's nations. Together they set out on a journey to a part of Aionios pierced by a blade called Sword March, to search for answers and defeat the true enemy, and bring order to the world.

Were there any other big titles that I totally missed that should be on this list? Are you excited for any of these games? Let me know below in the comments! Be sure to check out the top indie games list, and I will see you soon when we check out the releases for August!

I am 75 hours in Xenoblade 3, at chater 3 and I can already say it is the best game on switch. The world is incredible, and the best that could have been done given the switch capablitites, the battle system in deep and rearding for hardcore RPG fans, story is super insteresting and characters are well developed and gets a lot of screentime and small details, music is fantastic, and exploration feels more rewarding than most pure adventure games. It s also the best game in the series, which is a huge compliment since all of them are fantastic.

Do you guys intend to review it? you did a review for 1 definitive edition, so please do the same for 3!!
