E3 2011 Coverage and What is E3? I Hear You Say

Another E3 show is dawning upon us and the team at GameOn are sending two intrepid reporters to bring you the latest news and previews from the attending developers and publishers. Additionally several members of the GameOn news crew will be on stand-by here in good old blighty to support our reporters wherever possible, ensuring to bring you the news as it breaks.

E3 Entrance

Now you may have seen us report on E3 before but may not be sure what exactly E3 is, well it simply stands for Electronic Entertainment Expo hence the abbreviation of E3, this is one of the biggest dates in the calendar of game developers across the globe, not to mention the big three console manufacturers, Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. Also pretty much anything related to the games industry will more than likely make an appearance at this trade show.

This show is a platform for all these companies to converge into one massive conference hall and show off their upcoming titles, most of which have never been heard of outside of the studios of these developers until now. It's their chance to drum up as much interest or hype for the latest offerings in order to maximise their sales potential. Also any major announcements from either the software or hardware side of the games industry tend to be announced here at E3, it really is a major event in the games industry's calendar.

For example, this year we already know that Nintendo will announce their successor to the Wii console, currently nicknamed “Project Cafe”, last year Microsoft launched the Xbox 360 S edition as well as revealing that their motion controller “Project Natal” would retail under a different name, Kinect.

As you can imagine a lot of work goes into covering such a show and our preparations started over four weeks previous to this news post. So much has to be accounted for and booked in advance before even thinking about setting foot within the exhibition centre. Even when the dust of E3 has settled, we'll still be bringing you written previews and news from Chris Wakefield and Pete 'O Brien directly from Los Angeles.

Be sure to stay tuned to GameOn when E3 commences on June 8th.

We have some great appointments for E3, from interviews to taking a look at some of the new games coming out.
Afraid some of them we are not allowed to even tell you about yet

But we can tell you some of them, we will make a list of some of the appointments a bit later on today

We will add separate links to News and hands on preview feeds as our site will get slightly flooded.

We picked up Chris (Giraffe) Friday and drove him to Pete's (Pob) house.
After a short nights sleep we drove them to the airport

Both got on the plane and are now in L.A. (currently sleeping)

We have a massive scheduled for them for E3, we will post more information about this over the next couple of days.

Linda and I are a bit tired, as it was a 450 mile round trip to drive them to the airport.

Coincidentally while we was at the airport with them we bumped in to the lovely Emily from 2K Games. She gave our guys a really warm welcome and just bumping in to her has given us all a buss ready for E3.

Our first appointment on the Wednesday is with 2K Games, so expect some exciting previews from their stand.

Hey everyone.

Currently sat in our hotel room after just regaining consciousness (from travel, rather than anything else). It was a pretty long and eventful trip and at one stage took us 2 hours to travel less than 2 miles. We're still adjusting to LA time and are just currently finalising our schedule at the moment.

We've got some great stuff lined up and we can't wait for the show to start proper on Tuesday. Hopefully our hotel internet connection can hold up...

Firstly I'd like to say a massive thanks to Linda and Rasher for all their efforts in making our trip to LA go as smoothly as possible.

It was a long trip - we were up for nearly 24hrs before getting some sleep at 11pm local time (7am UK time).

However it has all been worth it and we're looking forward to bringing you some exciting content

I'll be taking plenty of photos and also videos of LA and E3 so look out for those. Here is the first, LAX:

Is the bus only for E3 or do we get to keep it afterwards?

Hi everyone,

I'd just like to start by saying a big thank you and well done to the team for their excellent coverage of the press conferences at E3 over the past couple of days.

Myself and Chris (Giraffe) had our first day of appointments today (remember we're 8 hrs behind here in LA ) and we are looking forward to bringing you the first previews soon. I'd just like to say please be patient with the uploading of content: we're trying to cram in as many appointments as we can while we are here which means we can bring you our thoughts on a wide range of exciting games, some of which we still can't post about just yet.

This does however limit our write-up in the evenings. You should see a trickle of previews come through each evening (or morning for Europe!!) and we will bring you our opinions on the hottest games as soon as we can, but our focus is, as always, on in-depth quality that lasts.

We also have 100's of photos to bring you and below you'll find a few tasters.

Thank you and enjoy!

POB

Well the show has now ended. It has been a packed three days and the real work begins now! Keep a look out for our previews - we have a huge mix of games to share with you. We have also taken over 500 photos which need sorting through, but for now here are three more for you to enjoy
