E3 - 2013 Coverage: Forza Motorsport 5

Introducing Forza Motorsport 5 is a short video showing of McLaren’s latest baby, the McLaren P1 - a car so advanced that it wouldn’t even pass the necessary limitations that F1 cars have to adhere to. You’ve guessed it. It’s in Forza Motorsport 5.

Dan Greenwalt takes centre stage, and tells us how Turn 10 Studios are pushing the boundaries of racing games for the next generation, stating that it’s not about polygon count or texture resolution. It’s about making it feel ‘human’ - more alive and realistic than previous entries to the series.

Given the extra power that the cloud has given them, they’ve developed a new system called “Drivatar”, an ever learning system that watches how you drive, where your strengths and weaknesses are and where you’re most likely to overtake. This allows the other drivers on the course to react more naturally to your driving style, rather than being stuck to their default racing line.

But it doesn’t end there, your Drivatar continues to race for you, even when you’re not at the console, racing against your friends and family over Xbox Live. You’ll receive the credits that your Drivatar earns while you’re away too. You’ll always be matched against drivers that are at your level, meaning you’ll never feel out driven by more studied drivers.
