E3 - 2013 Coverage: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Reveal

Microsoft’s E3 Press Conference kicked off today with the full reveal of the next title in the classic Metal Gear Solid series, sub-titled The Phantom Pain.

The Phantom Pain will be the spiritual sequel to MGS4: Guns of the Patriots, but in a division from previous entries in the series, The newest installment will feature an open world environment that looks to be based in an Eastern/desert setting.

The reveal trailer featured a glimpse at gameplay, including Snake riding a horse through a sandstorm, jumping in a Jeep and sleuthing his way around a ruined building. The updated graphical capabilities of the Xbox One see a great level of detail, even in these in-game shots.

On top of this, the trailer gave us our first impression of Kiefer Sutherland as Solid Snake, who returns as the protagonist. “You’re a legend in the eyes of those who live on the battlefield”, the trailer remarks, “Let the legend come back to life”.

As mentioned, The Phantom Pain, will see the MGS world transferred to an open world format with realistic and ambient weather, a collection of vehicles and transport, all on top of the stealth gameplay that’s synonymous with Metal Gear Solid.

The game will feature a host of new and returning characters from all over the MGS universe. There are some really interesting looking individuals who are sure to add even more depth and intrigue into the already huge Metal Gear Solid tale.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be available for Xbox One and probably PlayStation 4 (seeing as they didn’t mention it being exclusive). Check back here at GameGrin for the full reveal trailer.
