Fifty Shades of Gran Turismo

Gran Turismo

With Universal, DreamWorks and Legendary studios burning rubber in their 'fast car' franchises, Sony have decided to take up a starting position on the track with a Gran Turismo movie. They'll be bringing in producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti (Fifty Shades of Grey) to help bring this vision from the track to your screen.

Sony Executives Elizabeth Cantillion, DeVon Franklin and Hannah Minghella will be overseeing the project. Gran Turismo is the largest selling franchise on the PlayStation having burnt rubber on over 70 million copies worldwide.

Gran Turismo looks to make a name for itself in an over-saturated market with films such as The Fast and the Furious and the 2014 adaptation of Need for Speed.

What do you think a Gran Turismo movie could consist of? Let us know!

I know some people think cars are like porn but this is ridiculous.

Why a repair-man? Why not a repair-person? Or repair-woman?

You and your penis obsession worries me.

It worries YOU?!

Erm.

A franchise that's never had an inkling of a story is now about to have one thrust upon it. Not sure how that will turn out...

Oh FFS!!! Why do they bother? They must see by now that films spun off from games are always utter crap. We can see it but I guess all they can see is dollar signs.

Well, that certainly brings a new subtext to the term "horsepower."

Aaaaaaaaanyway.

While Gran Turismo is great fun to own because of the massive number of cars, the actual racing has always been something I've found incredibly dull because it's simply too realistic. That's no problem for the game because it's a simulation, but it means the movie is either going to be as boring as watching a freshly painted bench dry during a rainstorm, or related to the game by name alone.

But hey, I look forward to Surgeon Simulator: The Motion Picture.

I think Dawson has hit it on the head best - how can you transform a somewhat bland racing game with no real character to motion picture? Need for Speed, fair enough (though I don't know how that will be any different to Fast and Furious) but this is just Ludicrous! (See what I did there?)

Doesn't matter, making a film from an already established franchise is less of a risk than going with something remotely new.

Call it Gran Turismo, throw in a bunch of flashy cars, an attractive cast and some chases and make up some bullshit to stitch it into some form of a story. Wouldn't surprise me if they go with something along the lines of the clusterfuck that the Fast and the Furious series has become. That'll be the market audience they're aiming for.

One would hope they would be able to accumulate the slightest hint of common sense between them, leave the street racing storyline to Need for Speed and Fast and Furious 341, and focus on circuit racing considering that that's the point of GT.

Common sense in Hollywood... good one.

It is somewhat wishful thinking; they did decide to make a GT film after all...

Come to think of it, I like the idea of a classy driving film set in Monaco.
