Rockstar Advise Players Experiencing Loss of Characters

Grand Theft Auto Online hasn't had the best of launches. That being said, it's an MMO. Never in the history of online games has there been an MMO that has launched flawlessly to begin with.

Nevertheless, Grand Theft Auto Online has been having some quiet large issues, the latest of which is that players characters, rank, items, apartments and money have been going walkabouts. Rockstar are currently working on the case, according to their support blog, and have some advice for players who want to avoid this happening to them.

They have announced that if you receive the error message: "Rockstar Cloud Services Are Unavailable" that your characters have not been deleted. Not yet, anyway. What happens if you receive this message is that you cannot access your character but you are allowed to create a temporary character that can play online. This temporary character will not be saved. It's temporary. That's what temporary means.

Please do NOT use the “Retry” button after receiving the message “Rockstar Cloud Servers are unavailable” as this may result in loss of character data. If you are trying to access GTA Online and Rockstar Cloud Servers are unavailable, please exit to GTAV Story Mode and try entering GTA Online again through the Pause menu in Story Mode. We will be issuing a title update that will fix this issue as soon as possible.

At the current time, Rockstar are investigating whether those people who have had their characters deleted can have their progress restored or if they are lost forever in the ether.
