So here we are again, The Force Unleashed II and just let me say right here and now, this game seems to be everything I wanted after finishing the original. So without a further ado, this is the preview for The Force Unleashed II. From the word go, I could see that I was going to enjoy this game as much as, if not more than the original; but before I get into the specifics, here’s a quick overlook on the story. You play as Starkiller, Darth Vader's apprentice and start off in a cloning facility on the planet Kamino. Starkiller promptly escapes from this cloning facility but not before dismembering a horde of Stormtroopers.
Right, now that’s out of the way, I can begin. It seems that the developers have upped the environmental and player graphics in this new installment which I found almost breathtaking. The weather effects, the animations for Starkiller, the way the environments reacts to your presence and best of all, the Stormtroopers dismemberment. That’s right, you can now dismember the enemy in a multitude of ways.
To help you in this slaughter, you have had a few extras thrown your way in terms of offense. First of all, you have a new ability called Mind Trick. This allows you to ‘persuade’ the enemy to attack their allies or go for a long run off a short platform. This effect does wear off (if they don’t kill themselves in the process) after about twenty or so seconds but I can see this really helping in some more overwhelming situations with crowd control, plus it’s always entertaining to see a Stormtrooper walk off the edge, no matter the situation. The other new addition shown in this demo is Force Fury. I was, and still am a bit hazy on how this ability charges as I couldn’t see anything for it on my HUD whilst playing (it just popped up at a certain time) which could indicate towards this ability only being able to be used at specific times. Force Fury allows Star Killer to unleash his true potential. In other words, it lets you go a tad insane with his force powers (i.e instead of Mind Tricking a single enemy at a time, one click allows you to trick the minds of a battalion).
The other thing you meet in this demo is the Carbonite Heavy. This is a rather large droid with a lightsaber resistant shield (you remove it with force) and the ability to freeze/destroy Stormtroopers (which is handy) and also slow Starkiller down. I was glad to see the presence of the real-time sequences back in this installment also. I find it very satisfying pressing very few buttons with marvelous attacks occurring. One last major thing I noticed in this demo is that the menu’s are very fast loading. If you played the original game, you will remember that to get to every other menu, you would have to sit for about fifteen seconds waiting for it too load. In The Force Unleashed II, it seems that these have been abolished and every menu is very fast and easy to access.
So with all the good qualities of the original and (it seems) less of the bad, this game is looking very promising and I will be eagerly awaiting the release later on this month.
As far as I'm aware it's a simultaneous release on consoles and PC. Looking forward to this massively, loved the demo, and while I did enjoy the first game mainly for its story, I didn't particularly have fun with the demo. I've played this demo 4 times over now and love it.
Cant wait for this, really enjoyed the first one, any word if its coming out on the PC or just a console exclusive?
As DA said, yes it will be
It will also be on the Wii, DS but there does not seem to be any sign of the PSP version, which is a shame cause i loved the original on PSP.
Will have to look in to that a bit closer to the time.
I will be picking it up on PC though (no doubt like Plat)
Cool, will check if its coming out on Steam, if not Xbox version it is , Whos that in the picture?
Guybrush Threepwood of Monkey Island fame. He's one of the bonus skins in the game. I'm just hoping it's not one of those ****ty pre-order bonus things, as I'm not pre-ordering and I'll be pissed if I can't be Guybrush.
Think I'll be sticking with Xbox for this though until I get a PC upgrade, as even the last one kinda death'd my PC.
