UK Console Sales Update

Whether you're a console fan boy or girl, a market analyst or just plain curious, console sales statistics make an interesting read. Over the past 12 months, UK console sales have significantly increased, despite the rather gloomy economic climate. The combined sales of the Playstation 3, PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and DS in the year up to September 2007 was 8.8 million units, which has nearly doubled to 17.3m units for the same period the following year.

The seldom released UK console sale figures, courtesy of data experts GfK Chart Track, revealed that the Nintendo Wii once again reigned supreme with 3.6m units shifted, with the Xbox 360 falling behind with 2.3m units. The PS3 remains in last place with 1.4m units sold over the same period, but the gap is closing. The Nintendo DS nearly trumped all three put together though, shifting an impressive 7.1m units. The PSP continues to struggle, selling a modest 2.9m units.

So Nintendo fans can rejoice once more, but we all know its quality of games which matters, right?
