Kickstarter Success: Empires of the Undergrowth

Kickstarter Success: Empires of the Undergrowth

You know what there aren’t enough of in video games these days? Ants. Back in the ‘80s and ‘90s we had Ant Attack, It Came From The Desert and Sim Ant to name but a few. In the modern age, the best we can hope for is a cameo from Ant Man in a few of the Marvel games. Indie studio Slug Disco want to change all of that with their debut title, Empires of the Undergrowth.

Playing as the industrious insects, you will be constructing a nest underground by tunnelling, exploring and creating then take the fight to the surface to take down large insects, arachnids and other colonies. You do not directly control units, instead selecting what you want done and the ants go about it themselves. The skill comes from deciding your colony composition, organisation and speed of expansion. This removes barriers to entry that traditional RTS games have had with very complex controls, and makes the game much more accessible.

With funding reached within a week, the developer will be able to finish the game ready for it to be available in early 2017 on Windows, Mac & Linux. There’s a demo available on the Kickstarter campaign page too, meaning you can try before you buy if you want.
