Mortal Shell is Proof that a Small Team can Achieve Big Things

From watching the announcement trailer above, you'd never guess that Mortal Shell, the debut title from Cold Symmetry, was developed by a core team of just 15 people. The trailer shows off a soulslike that looks to shine with polish and is bursting with intrigue. What's more, it's set to release soon: Q3 of this year for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Despite the small team behind it, Mortal Shell is the product of multiple industry veterans joining forces, and it shows. Looking to offer no small number of enemies, locales, powers and weapons—all wrapped up in an intricate world with some mysterious mythology.

In a joint statement, Cold Symmetry's co-founders (Andrew McLennan-Murray, Anton Gonzalez, and Vitaly Bulgarov) compared the job of working on such a colossal task with such little manpower to "crossing an ocean on a paddle board". It's not hard to see why: if Mortal Shell delivers on the expectations built up by this trailer, it'll be a testament to what small studios can accomplish.

Mortal Shell is set for release Q3 of this year for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Players can sign up for the closed beta now on the Mortal Shell website.
