Netflix's The Witcher Series Receives a Firm Release Date

Netflix's series based on Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher novels finally receives a release date of 20th December 2019. Announced all the way back in 2017, some believed the series to have been trapped in "development hell" like so many other shows and films based on popular properties. Thankfully, the recent trailer (shown above) will squash any doubts as to the show's existence.

The Witcher gained global popularity thanks to CD Projekt Red's video game adaptation of the same name. Netflix's show isn't actually based on these games, instead opting to stick more closely to the source material. In fact, the author is working on the series as creative consultant, so fans of the book needn't worry too much about their beloved characters being butchered by executive meddling.

Henry Cavill (AKA: The DC Cinematic Universe's Superman) takes on the role of monster hunting, contract killing, genetically modified Geralt. Across eight episodes, he'll wrestle with fate on a personal journey that takes him across a vast world filled with humans, elves, dwarves and all manner of fearsome creatures.

Not much is known about the exact plot at the moment, expect more to be revealed as we near the 20th December release date. For now, mark your calendars, brew some preparatory decoctions and sit tight.
