The Last of Us Part II Has a Release Date

It’s been almost three years since The Last of Us Part II was first announced during the PlayStation Experience showcase in 2016, but fans don’t have to wait too much longer to get their hands on the game, with a new trailer revealing that the title will be launching early next year.

Part II is set a number of years after the first game, with Ellie seemingly being integrated into a new camp separate from her father-figure Joel. The trailer opens with Ellie going on some kind of mission for the camp with her new girlfriend Dina, only for Dina to get captured and murdered in front of Ellie by a mysterious new group. This is the catalyst for this new story, with Ellie vowing to hunt down and take revenge on this new group.

The trailer showcases numerous environments that look large and open, including a snow-covered mountainous region, a dilapidated city (much like the city areas seen in the first game), a flooded area that’s explored by a motor boat, and of course, plenty of dark and dingy buildings that are home to deadly and frightening combat encounters.

A couple of other characters from the first game also make brief appearances in the trailer. Joel’s brother Tommy is seen trying to talk Ellie out of pursuing the group, giving the impression that the community Ellie resides within might be the same community that Tommy was running in the first game. Joel also makes a brief appearance at the end of the trailer, albeit looking more aged than before.

The Last of Us Part II releases 21st February 2020, exclusively for PlayStation 4.
