Update: Origin Block Access from Iran & Myanmar (Burma)

Update:

reddit user trivial_sublime has returned with an update:

Also, thank you to EA for issuing assurances that they are looking at restoring our access (even though they said they were looking at both "whether" and "when" they could restore it - but hey, progress).

They go on to voice their concerns over the gaming community's reliance on services which can revoke access to an entire country on a whim.

If EA got their information from the Specially Designated Nationals List (SDN), then it begs the question why other services based in the US, such as Netflix and Battle.net, did not revoke access as well.

Original Story:

People have been asking Origin for help recently, after finding a bizarre 'Access Denied' message when trying to login. Players from Iran, Myanmar and other countries have reported this issue -- for some people such as those in the Ukraine it has been resolved quickly.

The issue is apparently due to the recent Origin 10 update, and EA (an America-based company) obeying the sanctions imposed by the United States government. At least, according to one of the volunteers on EA's Answers message board.

reddit user trivial_sublime has attempted to contact EA support, but to no avail given the fact that it's the weekend.

We will update this when we get more information.
