Steam Universe Expanding Part One: Steam OS

It looks like we're getting three big announcements folks, with the next one in approximately 47 hours. The first announcement though is SteamOS.

"SteamOS combines the rock-solid architecture of Linux with a gaming experience built for the big screen. It will be available soon as a free stand-alone operating system for living room machines."

The new Operating System will be free forever and includes a number of features including:

  • In-Home Streaming
  • Music, Tv, Movies
  • Family Sharing
  • Family Options
  • Cross-platform cloud
  • Workshop

So interested to see how SteamOS pans out in terms of pulling market share from windows or if it will happily co-exist with microshafts platform. Either way I'll be dual booting it to give it a whirl.

Depends if all the AAA titles come out for it, if they do then ill go with Ubuntu / Steam rather than the Steam OS as ill still want a good desktop OS on my PC

I like to imagine Steam OS sitting comfortably behind Windows.

If I want to play games, I boot up with Steam. Anything else, Windows.

Hopefully, could help iron out problems with compatibility across the various OS versions for future releases.

Steam OS will be based on Linux, Ubuntu to be precise.
